Stephanie @ Because of Love

Stephanie just miscarried a 10 week old baby. :( I went to her blog tonight and thought - Yep, this sweet lady needs a listening ear, prayers, and some blogger hugs. Stephanie is the wife of a police officer and the momma of a very cute little girl. She said she loves to make new "bloggy friends" so I'm happy to send you her way! :)

Here are some of Stephanie's favorite blogs:
What Is Family Integrated Living?

Some of you have asked me, "What exactly IS Family Integrated Living?". Let me put it this way.

Family - Parents and their children
Integrated - Combining or Coordinating separate elements so as to provide a harmonious, interrelated whole
Living - Being Alive

Family+Integrated+Living = Parents and their children coordinating their lives together so as to be a harmonious interrelated whole - WHILE BEING ALIVE! :)

If you've read my book, you know how important parent, child and sibling relationships are to me and my husband. One reason I'm so grateful for Anna's life is that her life taught us to appreciate being together - to truly prefer one another - to cherish our time together. It was forced in the beginning because it was absolutely necessary that we avoid illness and germs in the home for Anna's benefit - but it was eventually enjoyed and savored. Our time together as a family is and always will be... a blessing.

Anna's now gone and do you think I regret for one second those years of family integrated living? No way. I'm so grateful for what we learned and the way we lived with her that I can't even accurately express my joy with words. Our family continues to stick together. We not only dwell together, but we interact. We play games together. We watch movies together. We eat together - sometimes while watching a movie. We take turns doing dishes. We shop together. We take turns playing with little people (and it's not a chore). We rub one another's necks when we have a headache. We utilize each others gifts and talents. We encourage one another. We talk about everything! We pray together. We worship together. We love each other deeply.

Let's face it, families all around us are falling apart. Friends outside the home are often more important to children than their own siblings. Children often turn to their youth group leaders, pastors and Sunday school teachers rather than their own parents. I can understand this if the family isn't close to the Lord and the child/teen wants to be - they need others to turn to for counsel and advice. But it's happening in Christian homes as well. Parents are giving the important job of raising their children to these leaders. While these leaders may be wonderful, God fearing people, they don't love our children like we do. How can they? But more importantly, they are not the ones who God will hold accountable regarding our children. No, it's not their responsibility, it's ours.

"Father's provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." Eph. 6:4

(A virtuous woman) - "Her children arise and called her blessed." (How can they if mother isn't doing her job.) Proverbs 31:28

"...And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart. And you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up..." Deut. 6:6-9

How can we teach the scriptures to our children if we are never with them? We need to be with them at bedtime...in the morning ...when we're working, playing, creating - we need to take every opportunity to share the love of Christ with them. We learn best with real life application opportunities.

Someday when our children are grown and gone from the home, what relationships are going to matter the most? Who will they spend the holidays with? Who will they go to when there is tragedy or sorrow in their life? Who will they go to with good news? I want my children to call us, call each other, have meals together. I don't want them to come to our home or their siblings homes out of obligation. I want them to look forward to their time with those they grew up with...those they made memories with. Friends do have their place, and they are a blessing, but those friends will ... have their own families.

I once read a book called The Basket of Flowers. It was a story about a father and his daughter. The wife and other children had died from illness and this father and daughter were the only two remaining. I absolutely loved this book. This man lived his faith beautifully and taught his daughter as he lived it. He didn't sit down for in depth bible studies. He didn't make her memorize huge portions of scripture. It wasn't a strict life of rules and ritualism. It was a father living, working (mostly working in his garden) - with his daughter by his side. He taught her through parables and stories. He applied the scriptures to real life and affected her heart in a sincere way. It was a deep and beautiful relationship. I was greatly inspired to raise my children that way.

I know there are a million reasons why people run so many directions. There are different interests amongst family members and everybody has to have their own activity, right? I know that each family is different in size, in gifts and talents, etc. Each family has a right to make up their own minds concerning these things. However, I personally think that social events, ministries, sports, academic competitions and classes, etc. only add to the individual in their skills and associations. I believe they have the potential to take away from the most valuable opportunities those children will ever have - parent and sibling relationships.

Our family has always limited our activities outside of the home as individuals. Our kids have had instrument practice, and have participated in choirs. They've spent the night with friends and spent time socializing outside our home, but it's the exception, not the rule. These activities are kept to a minimum so that it doesn't keep us running so many different directions. There are eight of us and it could get pretty tiring if we allowed every single person in our home to have an activity that took them outside of the home each week.

We feel that we are sacrificing something good for something better. I guess it's kind of like a families choice to live without a tv or without an abundance of toys. There are benefits to having those things for sure, but in living without them those families feel they're making room for things they feel are better. That's the view we have from here. We are giving up perfectly good things for things that we feel are better - eternal relationships.

There's so much more on this subject. I'll post part two next week... If you have any questions so far, just ask.

**Kyle gave a 50 minutes message on this subject (kind of an overview of Family Integrated Living). I'm offering this CD free with the purchase of my book through today (Friday). It's part ONE. There will be a part TWO which will be practical application (how to) live family integrated.

Very different - yet Jo and Si love each other deeply and are inseparable.

Jonas was posing for me and when I was taking his picture, Harrison ran up to the rock and tried to pose like Jonas. See him trying to get his knee up? How do you do that Jonas?

Sibling relationships are potentially some of the most beautiful relationships.

Be Patient God Is Not Finished With Me Yet!

I'm sure if you've been blogging for long, you've seen this little button

Faith Baby

Well, I was just too curious! I had to see what "Faith Baby" was all about, so I clicked over and discovered adorable tees for little ones with faith based sayings. They were so cute, I couldn't resist and now Harrison has one of his very own!

"Be patient, God isn't finished with me yet." A saying for little people only? Well.... I think not. How many of us want to scream that to the world? Don't you sometimes wish that becoming a Christian would convert you to a perfect and perfectly patient person? I do. I get so frustrated with myself sometimes.

It's not always the 'on purpose' sins I struggle with (although I certainly have my fair share of 'on purpose' sins), it's usually attitudes that creep up that I get so mad at myself for. Sometimes I get hurt by somebody (who really is being a moron difficult), and then I find myself with sinful thoughts. I feel so justified in them at first, but as a Christian those justified feelings quickly turn to conviction and guilt.

Don't you wish that you could just like everybody. It would make life so much easier, but we don't do we? Even as Christians there are some people that just rub us wrong. I don't think it can be helped. That's just life. God gave us all unique and individual personalities and some just go together better than others. I think the most important thing we can do as Christians is remember to love unconditionally.

I don't think God expects us to become close friends with those who have personalities that clash with ours, but I know God expects us to love those who do. He doesn't want us to put ourselves above them or look at them as inferior or less than us because they drive us crazy. He expects us to treat them with love and respect and get to the point where they don't drive us crazy. He is pleased with us when we serve those who we struggle to love - but only when we do it with a heart of service for Him.

What is love? Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (I Cor. 13:4-8)

Love always feels right. Every single time I practice unconditional love I feel closer to my Savior, because after all, isn't that what he offers us?

If we're honest, we'll have to confess that we won't always get it right. We know that we'll sometimes feel used and taken advantage of and we'll struggle through feelings of bitterness and anger. We'll still get offended by somebody's strong opinion and we'll want to say something about it (but hopefully we won't). We must always remember to take each and every offense to the Lord and ask him to give us a great love for those who offend us - for those who rub us wrong.

One victory always makes us crave another - don't you think? It's kind of like a child who finds himself getting a hug and encouraging words for obedience. It motivates him to obey again...and again...and again. That's how it is with obedience to God and his word. Sometimes obedience is hard. It's hard to love the unlovely. Yet God says to. It's extremely difficult to turn the other cheek. Yet God says to do that too. When we do the right thing, the reward is a clear conscience, and an "I did it" spirit - and that makes us crave that victory again.

For with God, nothing shall be impossible! I'm greatly encouraged to know that every time I make effort to obey and honor God, he is pleased with me and he gives me the strength to follow through. Doesn't that encourage you?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention! When I asked Stephanie at Faith Baby if she'd give my readers a discount on her cute shirts she said YES! :) Use this code when checking out to get a 10% discount. LK709 BTW, Stephanie is SUPER sweet. She not only has a business, but a personal blog too! Stop by and say hello - and let her know how nice she is to give us a discount. I'm very glad to have met another blogging chum along the way.

Harrison is 2 today! My Wednesday's Walk...

Okay, I made a decision. Wednesday's Walk is staying!

I hesitated even to mention what was on my mind because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. It's actually been on my mind for a few weeks now.

After reading all of your comments I thought about it and decided I would do this...
Leave it all as is. I'll do Wednesday's Walk every Wednesday and just not worry too much about it if I can't make it over to everybody's blog (thank you for being so sweet to understand).

If you can participate GREAT! If not, that's okay too. Just join in when you can. I'll also do Because Kids Live Here spontaneously as I've been doing - once or twice a month on Tuesday or Thursday.

Thank you for your feedback. It helped to know your thoughts. I'm glad you enjoy Wednesday's Walk - I do too! And I do believe documenting memories is extremely important (trust me on this one).

So, since we're still here...

buttonwednesdaywalkmedium

This was a few days before delivering (Harrison was 9 lbs. 5 oz!). Whoa Bessy!

Harrison was due on Anna's birthday - July 25th. I had hoped he'd be born on her birthday because I wanted him to have a connection with her - since he was going to be born after she had made her departure into heaven. However, that was not to be. Harrison wasn't born until July 29th 2007. Two years ago today.

You would think that Harrison would just fall out - after all I had given birth 8 times before him! Yet, getting him to come down and out was not easy. Natural contractions didn't seem to do the trick - he just wouldn't drop down. It took breaking my water...pitocin...more pitocin (and of course an epidural). I prefer natural, but this one just wasn't meant to be that way. He was posterior (face up) and just wouldn't drop down into position.

Even with an epidural, when Harry FINALLY turned into position, it did NOT feel good.

Eventually he did and he made his appearance into this world. His squishy little face was very much like his brother Jared's (and he still looks a lot like Jared) - but no...he's Harrison Tate Kraft.

I've never felt anything quite so wonderful as holding my freshly born baby.

And here's my darling Harry today - not quite a baby anymore, but still MY baby and such a sweetie pie!

Happy Birthday to my precious little one.

I've Been Thinking About...

being done with Wednesday's Walk and switching to Because Kids Live Here.

I love walking down Memory Lane - and of course will continue to share memories when something comes to mind, but I feel like I'm failing you - my Wednesday Walk chums - as I can't seem to get completely through the list of Wednesday's Walk participants to read all of your posts. What kind of host is that? Wednesday's Walks are often longer - because sometimes memories are like that, so they take time to get through. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE visiting you! It's just the time factor.

I've seen Wednesday's Walk kind of die down a bit in participation and I've been wondering if everybody else is feeling the pressure of reading the posts. They are interesting and fun to read, but none of us are loaded with time are we?

Because Kids Live Here is easy to participate in because you just have to put a picture showing that kids live in your house. You don't even have to add a caption (although it would be fun to). It would be easy to hop around and respond to because there wouldn't be much to read - BUT, it does exclude my readers who don't have children - or have grown children...and I hate to do that.

Tell me what you think. Give me some feedback. What should I do? Should I do Because Kids Live Here? Should I just can it all and blog about whatever? Should I give Wednesday's Walk to another host? HELP ME! (as Harrison would say)

Harrison doesn't care what I do - because I blog about him no matter what! :)

Thanks guys!

Oh, and I thought I'd reveal one (there are FOUR!) of the prizes I'll be giving away next week to one of you who has been commenting on the featured bloggers blogs on Getting To Know YOU. This is a compact bible for your purse. I have one just like it and absolutely love it! Remember this post?
I know, another dorky cheesy grin. They just come naturally for me.

Our Annual Kids Day Was FUN! GTKY - Off to Finland!

**Don't forget to leave your comment on the newest blog post and say, "I'm here from Lynnette's Blog" or "Getting to know you". The drawing for this months winners is coming up in just one week - and I now have 5 prizes to give away!

I'll admit, when I meet bloggers from others countries, I get excited. It's just amazing to me that it has become so easy to make friends from places like FINLAND! Which leads me to Monday's Featured Blogger. Meet...

Barb is a Canadian wife of one Finnish man. Now how's that for unique! :) She has 3 sons and a newly adopted daughter. Barb loads her blog with pictures - which I personally love! In fact, there are some pictures on her most recent post revealing her great hair styling talent. Just go and look at her daughter's beautiful hair! Enjoy your visit!

KID'S DAY!

I remember when I was a kid I asked my parents, "Why is there a Father's Day and a Mother's Day but not a Kid's Day?" What was their answer? Well they answered the way any parent would (and did), "Every day is Kid's Day!" Makes sense to a parent, right? Well, it didn't make sense as a kid because I thought, Well, shouldn't it be just as fun to be a parent as it is to be a kid?

So, in 2001 Kyle and I started a totally fun tradition. We started Kid's Day! What do we do? We do a variety of things. On the very first Kid's Day we created obstacle courses, had bike races, etc. We gave equal value prizes to the winners whether they got 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place (we had 4 participating children at the time and 1 baby). On Kids Days since we've had water gun fights, various outdoor activities, gone to the zoo, to a movie, etc.

Kids Day was never on a particular day. We just spontaneously picked a nice summer day to have it. In 2005, the year after Anna died, we decided to use her birthday as our Kids Day. This would be a fun way to spend the day remembering our Anna rather than just sitting around wishing she was with us. *If you missed my video of Anna on Saturday, please scroll down and meet my sweetie.

This year we went to the Kansas Cosmosphere (an awesome space museum about 45 minutes from us in Hutchinson, KS) for a couple of hours, stopped at Starbucks on our way out of town (of course) and then we went to see the movie Monsters Vs. Aliens (which was pretty cute). You don't want to know what I did before the movie started and nobody was in the theater yet (except for us). No, don't ask me! I was a horrible influence on my innocent little children. It was quite fun though... (Blushing... I ran, danced, and twirled down the aisle and 4 of my children followed suit. What?)

We had a great time together.

Here are some highlights from our day.

I should have snagged somebody to take a family pic., but I didn't - so here we are, minus momma. The rocket will represent me.

Talk about ornery! (Can you tell by the look on her face that Abigail knew she was being ornery?)

See what the sign says? The funniest part was it took FOREVER to go down! She was getting a little nervous - her paranoid giggle gave it away.

It's a bird...it's a plane...no it's SUPER JARED!

Glamorous Glennis? No! Glamorous Cecily!

1963 was Kyle's birth year. At least it didn't say, "The beginning of the end."

Meet Anna - Finally Some Video For You...On her 11th birthday.

Today is the day that my sweet daughter Anna came into the world. She would have been 11 years old today. You don't know how badly I've wanted to share video of her with you. I feel like I haven't properly introduced you. I mean how can you really know her without 'seeing' her. Well today is the day that you get to see Anna in action because I finally bought the cord I needed to transfer our old (non digital) video to the computer.

I've had so much fun putting this little video together for you. I've smiled...I've giggled...I've choked up and I've felt some heart pains, but overall I've been able to rejoice in my spirit. I'm so so so so so glad that I'll be with Anna again someday. I can't wait to hold my beautiful child in my arms again. The videos have reminded me that someone precious is gone from me for now - a fun, charming, adorable, loving, beautiful little girl. Oh how I miss her!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNA! I love you so much!

*We started a tradition about 8 years ago - we invented KIDS DAY! After Anna died we decided to celebrate Kids Day on her birthday to give us something happy to do to. That's what we're doing today. I tell you all about it on Monday.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY MOM AND DAD!

This One's For Linda...and Ethan

Before I get started with Getting to know YOU, I thought I'd show you a picture of me and my very dear friend Renee. We had such fun yesterday. We didn't find too many sales to go to and our best find wasn't anything you'd enjoy seeing a picture of - it was a huge roll of bubble wrap for $3. ha! But, I will show you a picture we took of ourselves at IHOP.

This is my sweet friend Renee. She's been a WONDERFUL friend through the years.

Remember to...
1. Leave your comments on her most recent blog post and say you are visiting from "Lynnette's blog" or "Getting to know you".
2. Don't forget if you comment, you'll be entered in the drawing at the end of the month (you'll love the prize!)

I'm giving away two prizes this month...one is worth $30 and one is worth approx. $15. One is great if you have a little one...one is great for YOU! I'll announce the prizes on Monday, draw the two winners on Sat. Aug. 1st and announce the winners on Monday Aug. 3rd. So keep the comments comin'! My bribery is working! :) No seriously though, it does make it so much more fun for the featured blogger when they get a lot of traffic and a lot of comments.
Okay, now onto our featured blogger for Friday!

You'll be blessed when you meet

LINDA @ From a Mother's Eyes!

I've introduced my blogging friend Linda before. She is the precious lady who sent me this gift a few months ago.

This gift was more than a little special to me. You see, I never had pictures of Samuel and Josiah up in my house. I just didn't have any good pictures of them. They were small and far away. Well, she asked me if I could email her my favorite pictures of my three children in heaven and said she had a surprise for me. I sent her what I had and I was completely amazed when I received this beautiful piece of art featuring my precious children who dwell in heaven...together.

Well, we did our own little piece of art for Linda in honor of her precious stillborn son. I've been thinking and thinking - trying to come up with something clever for her Ethan Scrapbook that she mentioned to me recently. I wanted it to be something to honor Ethan and represent our family. Well, what better way to represent our family than with our three little boys, dirty buckets and the side of our old shack. It just seemed right. And to top it all off, the paint we used on the buckets is the same paint I used on my wardrobe in my room. :) So Linda, this is specially designed for you, from us country folk over in Sedgwick, Kansas!

The boys were hard at work to make it right. :)

For Ethan and His Mommy - "Our Life is Dull Compared to Yours!"

Linda, I've grown to love you and I appreciate your tender heart. Email me for the originals so you can print them for your "Ethan scrapbook".

So go and visit my sweet friend and show her some love. She also has two other handsome sons and a hubby who she's currently without because he's been deployed to Iraq. This just seemed like a perfect day to feature Linda.

Here are three of her favorite blogs to visit.

I'll Never Tire of Being a Momma

I often hear grandmas say "Being a grandma is even BETTER than being a mom"! I don't see how it can be. Really? What can be better than falling asleep with your toddler right next to you with his thumb in his mouth and his hand on your tummy? I'm sure grand parenting has it's own charms, but better? I can't imagine. (We'll have to see...)

Today I took advantage of another beautiful, slightly hot day with my blessed brood. We ventured out to our favorite free place - well free since we paid our yearly membership fee. We took various sandwiches, Kettle bakes chips, and organic dried figs and went to the zoo.

Exercise! Sunshine! Unusual creatures! Energetic children! Laughs! Venti Iced Coffee with whole milk! Curious/Fascinated Toddler! Monkey Children! Sibling Interaction! Building Relationships and Memories! Prime Picture Taking Props! and even Educational!

I absolutely love it! (Can you tell?) hee hee

Here are some pictures from our day. I have so much fun with pictures. I'm hoping to get a new lens for my camera before we go to Branson at the end of next month.

Did he pick a good picture spot of what? (See his little boy bruise?)

It's a jungle out here!

Three Little Monkeys!

Yes, I made them do this, but it paid off! I love this picture.

This is beautiful to me.

Nope, there just isn't much out there better than being a mom!

I AM blessed and enjoying every minute of it! (Like my thrift store shirt? Cool find huh?)

I'm excited for breakfast and garage sales with my sweet friend Renee (who I don't get to see nearly as often as I'd like to). Thank goodness for birthdays (hers not mine). hee hee I'll let you know if I find anything cool!

Have a blessed day! And if you have children, enjoy every minute with them!!! If you don't have children, you are still blessed! God uses us all for his service in different ways doesn't he? Bye for now chums...

Our Vacation to CALIFORNIA!

buttonwednesdaywalkmedium

Talk about a FUN vacation! Last year we went on a big one. It was Jared's graduation year and we thought we'd celebrate. (Do you think we got ourselves in trouble doing that? We do have 5 more kids to follow. Yikes!

I'm going to really make my family 'California sick' doing this (sorry fam)...it was an AWESOME vacation and we're all dying to go back. Kyle often says, "I'd go back and do all again today if I could." I think that California agrees with Kyle and I (I was born in and lived in California the first 7 years of my life) - we both absolutely loved the beach...the weather...the amusement parks (yes, it's true, we love them as much as the kids)...but I would definitely miss my farm if we headed for California - and besides it's too expensive to live there.

My parents often go on vacation with us and they are so much fun. We laugh a good part of the time (don't we Mom?). We had a LOT of time together. We drove all the way from Kansas to California. We stopped to see the Grand Canyon and OH MY GOODNESS!!! It was simply breathtaking! I don't think I ever could have imagined it being so beautiful.

We stayed in a house in Anaheim. It was not the greatest house experience, but it was okay. The little guys had a fenced backyard to play in which was nice, and we could see the Disneyland fireworks from the front yard.

We visited Disneyland, California Adventure Park, Universal Studios, the beach (Ahhhhhh!!!!), some interesting restaurants, Hollywood Blvd., Virgin Record Megastore (Jared's personal favorite), Palm Springs, Sedona, AZ ... A glorious 2 week vacation! (Well, perhaps not every minute was glorious - we did get a little TIRED!)

So, now I share PICTURES GALORE with you!

We're on our way! (Cecily's eating her morning beef jerky, hee hee)

Trying Creme Brulee for the first time. (I think that's what it was - I didn't like it much)  *Abigail informed me it was "Flan".  I stand corrected. :)

I HATE spinning (but love fast rides!). Grandma doesn't mind spinning (but hates fast rides!)

Virgin Record Megastore (Weird name huh?)

Oh, I want to go BACK!

Brian Tyler (Famous Film Score Composer) - He gave Jared (our aspiring film score composer) a tour of his studio! We got to go too!

I sure love these two!

Beetlejuice next to my foxy hubby.

This is what we came home to. Massive flooding. We couldn't get home! We had to take an alternate route and honestly almost had to head to my parents house, but we made it.

**Don't forget my book sale ends midnight (Pacific time) Friday!!!

I Love You THIS Much! :) (So I thought I'd have a book sale)

You know what happened yesterday? I hit 100,000 visitors! YEAH! I'm so happy! If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen my semi-spazzy message at about 3:00 pm. I was a wee bit excited. I'd just like to say THANK YOU to all of my readers. I'm so glad to have met you and I enjoy you sooooo much.

Do you know that I think of you, my blogging chums, every day? I told my family the other day that if somebody stole my computer I'd go and borrow one (which wouldn't be hard in this house since we have 5 of them!!!!) to check up on all of you. I think some people consider internet friends "not real", but we are real aren't we? God has given us an opportunity to know each other through the internet, and I see it as a wonderful blessing!

We do have to set rules for ourselves so that we don't live on the computer, because after all most of us have families to love on (and if we don't, they'll come after us!)

We do have to be careful that we don't feel obligated to get too personally involved with every single person that we come in contact with (there just isn't enough time in a day), but it is fun to have access to kind hearted, loving people in other parts of the world, don't you think?

Because we're chums...

I've observed that I'm not the only one who has children that fall asleep in strange places.

I've laughed at your funny pictures.

I learned that Wednesday's Walk allowed a chum to find family she never knew she had.

I've been sad with many of you over memories of loved ones who have gone on before us.

I've felt love and compassion from you over my heartaches.

I've had a blast sharing my slightly strange family. (Thanks for laughing at (yes AT) us - hee hee)

I've wondered many times how we can get together for a big party! I'm sure I'd love hangin' out with you guys.

I was finally told by one of you what the word "meme" means.

I've been given wonderful, meaningful gifts that I never would have expected to receive (and I certainly don't deserve).

I've tried new recipes.

I've been inspired with organizing ideas.

No, my time on this blog certainly has NOT been a waste of time. You know how you get excited to tell your friends and family about things going on in your life or share fun events...well, I get excited to come here and share it with you too because you always leave such nice comments ... and you keep me comin' back for more!

So, for the 100,000!! hits, I thank you! I feel extremely blessed. You love me just the way I am, and you love my family with all our quirks and goofy ways - which are many.

I hope my blog has inspired you to do the following things:

Spaz Out! (at least once in a while)

Rejoice!

Laugh!

Drink Coffee! (Well, maybe that isn't being such a good influence)

Paint with a few wild colors (if you want to)

A Lesson From a Paint Can - Well God actually. GTKY: Her blog is like a good stew.

Well you know that I've been painting right? Did I mention that I found $1 Oops paint at Home Depot to paint my chandelier and mirror...and $5 Oops paint for the boys room (you'll see it this week sometime) and I had Oops paint from 6 years ago that I painted Cecily's room with? Well, if that's not awesome enough, there's more!

I had used my 6 year old Oops paint to paint a stool and a table (my lamp table) before I decided it would look pretty on Cecily's walls, so I didn't have quite a full gallon. I knew I wouldn't be able to go and get more of the same color because after all it was Oops paint! As I began painting I thought to myself, I'm crazy - one gallon isn't enough for two coats of paint in this room! That IS crazy you know. But for some reason I felt compelled to try.

As I began to paint I thought again, There's absolutely NO WAY this paint is enough. The walls were a macadamia nut color before I painted and I knew that the darker paint would take more coats to cover it, especially since I was covering them with a lighter color. But again I felt I was supposed to do this.

A portion of a verse kept popping into my head "Take no thought". Matthew 6 starting with verse 25 talks of trusting God with our lives. He says, "Take no thought saying, What shall we eat or drink or what shall we be clothed with? For your heavenly father knows that you have need of these things. ... "

As I painted I decided I would do the best I could - not being careless to put too much paint in one spot and trying very hard to roll it as evenly and thinly as I could on the first coat so that I would have enough for a second coat. However, while I did that I thought to myself, I'm going to trust God in this little thing because I feel God is trying to show himself to me.

I began to see a parallel with something else - my personal walk with my Lord. Sometimes I put too much confidence in myself and I think I can please God outside of going to him. Sometimes I struggle with this life - this busy life. I don't always take time to hear from God. I don't always pray first. In the quietness of the room with just me and the paintbrush, God was speaking to me. He was saying, it's a little thing but it's going to mean a lot to you.

Somehow I knew that God was going to stretch that paint and completely cover the room and I would see his provision, I would marvel and I would share his wonderful work with my family...and with you. (Psalm 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God. I have put my trust in the Lord God that I may declare all Thy works.")

After I went all the way around the room with a thin coat of paint, I had about a third of the paint left. Again I'm thinking this doesn't make logical sense, but God is teaching me to trust him - yet again. I began to think of the fish and the loaves of bread (Matthew 14:15-21) and thought to myself - Jesus is the same...yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) I serve that same God! He will provide.

I simply dumped the rest of the can in the paint tray and began to paint away. I purposed not to think about it too much but I was careful not to over do it in any one spot.

I got to the third wall and didn't stress over the limited amount of paint left.

Doesn't look like much, does it?

I really didn't because I was having fun at this point. I got to the fourth wall and completed it. I looked around to see if there were any spots that didn't look covered. Nope. All covered.

And you know what? There was about 1/2 cup of paint leftover!!!! I thought about pouring it out and then I thought, NO WAY! That is evidence that God not only put two coats of paint on those walls - and it's not a small room - but there was even paint to spare! Yes, He is the same...yesterday, today and forever... and he just proved that to me - once again.

Paint to spare. Is that just God or what?

2. Don't forget if you comment, you'll be entered in the drawing at the end of the month (you'll love the prize!)

A hint about one of things I'm giving away...
It's something I have and LOVE... and carry in my purse. Hmmmmm????

Okay, now onto our featured blogger for Monday!

Today let's run over to visit (What? You can't run on the internet? I can!)

LAUREN! at Walking By Faith

Lauren says her blog is a little like a stew. Isn't that cute? Makes me want stew! (Really Lynnette!) Sadly, Lauren has had two baby boys leave this earth and had two foster children who also won her heart. Her most recent post is called Jesus in the Workplace. I thought it might be an encouragement to you ladies who work outside the home.

Enjoy your visit and if you have time to hop around, here are five of Lauren's favorite blogs.

Cecily's Bedroom Makeover

Soft and Slightly Shabby... Girly and Definitely CECILY! ;)

About the before picture...

No, Cecily's room doesn't normally look quite this bad. ha! No really. We were moving a bookshelf to her closet and had not only unloaded the closet but the bookshelf as well. Yes, she has a tendency to let her little brothers decorate her walls. Cute? Well, in a way...but I decided it's not cute enough. As you can see, Cecily had WAY too much stuff and a lot of it has made it's way to the TRASH!

Now...onto better things.

Now don't you think her life will be more peaceful?

See the picture of her little sissy on her dresser?

She will actually be able to work on her desk.

My mom and dad bought this mirror for me on my 16th birthday. I'm thinking about painting it white, but man paint is getting REALLY OLD! I've been a painting maniac and I'm actually painting the boys room today - wild and crazy colors! (Stay tuned)

I finished her room when she was at a movie with her daddy and siblings (minus Harry who was home with me). She was pleased as punch when she saw the finished product!

Now I feel I must explain something... one lightbulb instead of four?

We refer to my husband as "light cop" or "light bulb man". He notices lights left on and always tells us how much money we could save if we turned them off. What's funny is he's not extremely frugal...not a bargain hunter...but there's just something about lights left on that turns him off! hee hee

GTKY: Momma to 3 here and a baby in heaven...and "mix my granola" is YUMMY!

Meet...KATHRYN! @ Expectant Hearts

Kathyrn and I have something in common. We've both lost a child to congenital heart defects (CHD). I've chatted with Kathryn a few times and have enjoyed getting to know her very much. She's also married and has 3 other adorable children. Head over and meet baby Seth and the rest of the family. I know that you'll enjoy visiting her blog today.

Before I get started on this product review, I just want to say NO, I'm not getting paid for this! Just in case you were wondering. ha! :) I just want to share an awesome product with you that I just received today. The company is called mixmygranola. The granola was SO good and it's totally fun to create a mix! You get to pick your base granola mix and all the mix-in's separately. I love that they have organic ingredients as well. They have everything from dried fruits and nuts and seeds, to organic gummy bears and organic jelly beans! YUM! I'm going to try that next time (the organic jelly beans that is).

I love the packaging it came in. It's very convenient to pour out and you don't have to worry about it spoiling because the lid pops right back on. I contacted Raoul at mixmygranola and he's offered to give my readers a 10% discount, and only that but when you receive your first order, you'll receive a coupon for $3 off of your next order! So this is a great time to give it a try!

The price varies depending on what you put in, but it's priced very reasonably.

Harrison LOVED IT! And the packaging was easy for him to put between his legs while he pigged out.

Go here to start creating your mix and use this code to get your discount: granola10

How do you get this thing open?

YUMMY! I think I'll just shove some more in!

Because Kids Live Here! Let's Do This Again...

...Because it's so much fun!

I had such a good time with this last time. I hope you'll post a pic (or a few) on your blog and link up with us so we can hop over and get a little laugh - or a precious Ahhhh!

There are NO rules! Just show us some pictures that prove that kids live in your house. That's it!

This is a particular "kid" - namely Jonas. He loves peanut butter!

I went up to take a shower tonight and when I saw this I thought - PERFECT timing! So, I snapped a picture just for you - well, and of course for me.

This soap could look so pretty on that wooden soap holder if the kids wouldn't use it. ha! Yes, I know that defeats the purpose, but a fresh bar of soap looks so much cuter.

As usual I'm doing this blog after hours (for the next day) and while that is the best time for me so it doesn't take away from my family time, I am eye crossing, feeling drunk tired! It's all the painting I'm doing. I told Abigail today that painting is like swimming - it makes you hungry and tired. She said, "Yeah, but it doesn't burn as many calories." Oh well, I'm not painting to lose weight. Stay tuned for pics of the bedroom re-dos. It's only 11:00 pm my time, but I have want to get up at 6:15 to go to breakfast with my hubby...so I better go to bed. I'm so tired I almost feel drugged. Late nights add up!

*If there are errors, you'll know why.

A Family of Couch Potatoes

buttonwednesdaywalkmedium

Join me and my blogging chums for a Walk Down Memory Lane. For details on how it works click on the button above!

I thought I posted about this before but in searching my blog, I couldn't find any couch posts - if I'm going insane and it's there somewhere, forgive me and, well, enjoy it again! :)

When Anna died we did some redecorating to accommodate a memorial music room in Anna's honor (but due to a lack of bedroom space it went away after only a year). Anyway, one thing we purchased after she died was a big, cozy, sectional couch. I told Kyle I just HAD to have it. I wanted us all to cuddle up on it. I felt we needed to be close to one another.

That couch has been the most popular piece of furniture in our home. We 'camp out' on that couch. We have family bible time on and around the couch. We take naps on the couch, open presents on the couch, pout on the couch (not me, the kids - well mostly), watch movies on the couch, spend sick days on the couch, play around the couch, eat on the couch (not always the greatest idea) ... the boys are way to wild on the couch, and a light saber went right through the side of the couch - ugh!

Even though that couch won't last forever (and in fact may not last much longer with the abuse love it's taken, I have hundreds of pictures of our family members it. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures with Anna cuddled up to us on it, but it was while we were missing her we bought it, so it reminds me of her too.

So, here's a couch picture extravaganza...and I had so many more I could have posted.

Have you hugged your couch today? :)

To Older Momma's YO! and to Younger Momma's, Be Easy on Us!

I just can't participate in the MckLinky Blog Hop today. I thought I'd join in, but there are two reasons I can't. First of all, the theme is "Three things you didn't know about me", and you guys know everything there is to know about me!!! I don't hide anything here. :) Secondly, last weeks blog hop stressed me out I have something on my heart to write about.

It's this issue of "Stages of Parenting". It was inspired by a conversation I had (over coffee) with my sweet friend on Monday.

Do you ever feel like people don't understand you...don't 'get' you? I think we've all felt that way a time or two... or a million. I'm at an age where that doesn't bother me so much anymore (see you have something to look forward to when you turn 40), but I'll admit, sometimes I do get a little (sinfully) irritated when another momma over steps her boundaries and tells me what I should do with/for my children. I appreciate good counsel but I don't like to hear phrases like "You need to do this" or "You shouldn't do that" when there wasn't an invitation or (in my opinion) a need for advice in a particular area. Us older moms are often viewed as not careful enough (by younger moms) and younger moms are often given advice because older moms assume they don't know anything.

You all know I'm pretty transparent here on my blog. You know that I'm quirky, lazy, flighty, and sometimes "together" (hee hee). I don't need to list anything specific here because you've seen my quirks - remember I murdered a frog and a blackberry phone with a lawn mower. Sometimes it's easy to look at people who are being 'real' and make judgments against them, but I'd much rather be real and flawed than proud and flawed. Truth is we are all flawed right? And us moms can support one another - flaws and all!

Older moms can support the younger moms by simply understanding and remembering those days when all the children were little. They are wonderful, often stressful but certainly days to rejoice. To you younger moms, ask us older moms when you need a little perspective, we're here to help you out! When I had young children and was tired and often weepy and thinking I would never survive those years (or the day!), I had a precious friend often remind me, "Lynnette these days are going to fly by - just enjoy each and every day and don't major on the minors - your house can wait." That was amazingly wise advice.

Also, what some moms might see as flaws in other moms might not be flaws at all. Us older moms have been there done that in many areas. We know the joys and stresses of young motherhood. It's a difficult stage. Life is centered around little people all the time. I remember thinking I would die if I couldn't talk to a grown up person. I remember thinking going to the grocery store alone was a real treat. Us older momma's, we understand. But, I think younger moms need to understand us older moms. We aren't less spiritual because we have a loud and busy house. We aren't walking away from God because our teenage son wears a faux hawk and our teenage daughter wears converse sneakers with her skirts. In fact us older parents might think it's kind of cool. We aren't unloving or lazy in our parenting because we don't fret about the things that younger parents fret about - we used to fret about those things too - it's just we realized after a few kids that it wasn't something to major on - you know?

Older parents seem lax sometimes don't they - like they've given up. I imagine that's true on occasion (who doesn't feel like giving up on a bad day), but I personally love this stage of life. I have older children who are great companions. We have live-in babysitters. We are loud and crazy and laugh a lot. Kyle and I just get more awesomely cool as our kids egg us on (okay that might be a slight exaggeration). We really do have a blast.

So, all I really wanted to say is this...
Wherever we are in life...
Whatever stage we're in...
Younger mom, younger kids...Younger mom, getting older kids, Younger mom, getting older and younger kids...Older mom, younger kids...Older mom older kids, Older mom all ages of kids, etc. We are blessed and we are right where God wants us! There are the goods and bads to each stage of parenting, but ALL are a blessing.

Us older parents haven't fallen off the deep end, we're just a little more relaxed with parenting. We know it's not likely that our child will die if he falls off of his bed, so we only put 2 pillows on the floor in stead of 10. We don't freak out if a baby goes to bed for the night in his clothes - that's a little thing. If children don't stink, they don't need a bath, right? So many things have been ruined in the house that when something else gets ruined we sometimes just walk away and ignore it (depending on what it was of course). An older parent knows not to even try to figure out who did it because nobody ever fesses up, so we'll just say to all of the kids, "God will spank you and his spankins' are worse than ours!"

All I'm saying is - be easy on us older parents. We might look wacky and out of control. We might act wacky and out of control. Heck, we might even BE wacky and out of control. But most of us are completely aware of what we're doing and we're enjoying every minute of it!

Yes, we bought our son a drum set! I said I'd NEVER do that!

I let my kids play with electrical boxes! Okay, that one was a joke.

And yes, I did let Harrison climb on the drawer to dig into the sugar bowl - after all it was actually xylitol which is good for your teeth!

*A little choppy as it's late as I'm writing this, but I think you'll see what I'm saying.

Backing up your blog...Because Kids Live Here...and JENILEE!

A couple of changes for Getting to know YOU!
Concerning the monthly giveaway for Getting to know YOU... I wanted to add a couple of things:
1. Make sure you comment on the featured bloggers most recent post (even if you comment on others posts as well), that way I can find you to enter you in the giveaway.
2. Say in the comment that you are visiting from "Lynnette's blog" or "Getting to know you" or something so I can spot you (because not all comments on the blog will be left by only this group). Also, even if you aren't participating in Getting to know YOU, you can still be entered in the giveaway IF you say in your comment that you are visiting from my blog.

I'm working on the giveaway and I know you'll love what's being offered. So comment away!

Today we're heading over to meet ...

JENILEE from beauty is living the life you love...

Jenilee's been roaming the halls of my blog for a while - she was one of my first blogging chums (Jenilee did you realize that?). Anyway... I've gotten to know her a little through her Wednesday's Walks and her other blog posts. She has three of the cutest little girls ever. Jenilee and her husband also have a heart for children's ministry and want to be missionaries to Africa someday. Her "Not Me" post this week is cute. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Here are five blogs that Jenilee digs:

I took a couple more pictures over the weekend proving that "Kids Live Here"! So, I thought I'd give you another opportunity to link up this week. We'll do this on Thursday okay? So, get your cameras out this week and take those pictures that prove that kids live in your house. Here's a little teaser pic to show you how I know that kids live in my house. This is Harrison's work of art.

Our family received a very sweet Thank You card from some friends from church this week and while most of us loved it, this is what Harrison thought of it. He just doesn't have an appreciation for the written word.

Do you know how to back up your blog?

I'm curious...do you know how to save your blog so that you don't ever lose it? (Wouldn't that be horrible?!) Let me share with you how that's done (and I would do it once a week or so).
1. Copy and paste this into your address bar:
http://lynnettekraft.blogspot.com/search?max-results=1000 (but put your own address - the 1000 means it will put up to 1000 blog posts on one page ). *It may take a while to completely load, depending on how many posts you have. Let it load all the way.
2. In your browser, find that file/save option and save it to your hard drive.

This will save all posts, pictures and comments - everything! You'll be able to rest after you do this - knowing that your blog is safe and sound.

Yes, you'll be able to rest...just like my little boys. Yeah right! Does it look like they're resting? hee hee

Afterword: (hee hee)  Okay, I was asked how to restore this if you were to lose your blog ... good question.  I'm not sure you could actually restore this type of file and I couldn't find any useful information on the internet.  So, I did some more research and apparently you can just go into "settings" in your blog and use the export feature to export your blog into a xml format.  Then, if you had to (because your blog was deleted or some other catastrophe) you could import that back into your blog by using the "import" feature.  I just tried it on my working blog and it does indeed work.  BUT, you have to save your template separately.  This export/import process only saves the blog posts and comments.  If you don't have a working blog (one you try things out on), create one and try this out to see how it works.  Now, was that clear as mud?

Bedroom Completed! ...An Amazing (but normal) Lady, and Giveaway Winners!

Sorry I'm running a bit late today. I usually do all my blog posts after my family goes to bed, but last night I sat and stared at the computer screen and thought - I just can't do it - I was debilitatingly tired. All this painting wears a person out! However, my bedroom is done (except for one bare spot on the wall I'm waiting for inspiration for that). I'm editing my pics of my bedroom and will add them in just a bit, but I wanted to go ahead and get our featured blogger up first. By the way, don't forget about the monthly giveaway that is now connected with Getting to know YOU! You will be entered one time for EACH comment you leave on the featured blogs through the month. Eight blogs... eight entries! I've had some neat prizes offered up from fellow bloggers (if would like to donate a prize for the giveaway to support your business or promote your blog just let me know!).

So...on to our Featured Blogger!

Today we're hopping over to get to know....

MICHELLE @ The Tender Scribe

I chatted with Michelle on my Yahoo ping box one day and was so blessed by this lady. Michelle has been a foster parent to MANY children. I think most of them (if not all of them) have had disabilities. When she told me that I thought, "Wow, what a difficult and blessed task". God has used this woman to minister to so many children, and I'm so thankful for people who give of themselves to serve Christ in this way. Michelle also has 4 children, one of which has multiple disabilities. She IS an AMAZING woman, but I loved her blog post called, "Just a Normal Person" (a really cute post - "read and pray, and then start my day"). She actually IS amazing...and humble.

Five of Michelle's favorite blogs are:

I'm also looking for some antique fishing stuff to put in front of the picket fence piece above the wardrobe. I went with my heart on this project and I'm SO glad I did! Whuduya (cool word huh?) think?

Not Done Yet, But.... Sneak Preview

Abigail and I worked like crazy today to get the room, the wardrobe and the dresser painted. We did it! But, I don't have anything hung on the walls yet. So, I'm just going to give you a sneak preview - use your imagination okay, and I'll show you the whole room when it's all done - probably tomorrow (I promise!).

As we've been re-decorating my room, I've realized how refreshing it is. It truly lifts my spirits to add new color! Just ask Abigail. The color of the wardrobe makes me flat out happy. Seriously, when we poured the paint in the tray I got totally excited and couldn't get over how pretty it was. Here was my reaction to it: With an overly excited giggle I said, "This is even more awesomerly than I imagined!" If this isn't a happy color, I don't know what is!

Oh, and by the way...did you notice the color? Turquoise! Only two of you guessed the right color - Kelly and September. Coral would have been beautiful too - many of you guessed that. Actually, I love faded colors, but other than faded colors I LOVE TURQUOISE! It's my favorite jewelry stone too. So, there you have it. Here's the wardrobe - let me know what you think. (You can't see the distressing that we did to it, but believe me, it looks really cool).

Remember the little lamp table? Well, I still don't have a lamp shade, so I took a picture of everything under the lamp. :) Didn't it turn out adorable?

Here's all the stuff waiting to be hung up on the walls. Do any of you remember this shelf from garage sales a couple of months ago? I can't wait to put it up!

I did have a thought today as I was painting and getting excited about my room - I realized how important it is to follow your heart. When it comes to decorating your home, there are no rules. Oh sure, there might be some man made decorating rules, but those rules are pish posh. If you want to paint a huge piece of furniture turquoise, like your chum Lynnette, GO FOR IT! I felt almost ornery doing that, but I'm SO glad I did. I know not everybody will like it, but I do!

Not everybody has a wild hair, but we all have our own taste. God made us all unique and I believe he likes to watch us express our joy over things that make us happy - whether it be turquoise, coral, plaid, polka dots, flowers, chandeliers, track lighting... WHATEVER!

By the way, guess what else? After getting all of the painting done and seeing all the colors together, I decided to paint my light fixture a certain color (you'll have to wait to see). Anyway, I went to Home Depot to buy a quart of paint in this color and on the way to the "Oops" paint (discount), I said, "Oh Lord, let there be "secret color" paint in the cheap paints", and lo and behold THERE IT WAS! So, I got this"secret color" paint for $1! Yes, that was $1!! Isn't that awesome! Thank you for the little treasures Lord!

I'm excited to show you the finished project and just love that you're getting excited with me.

So...until tomorrow then....

Go do something to your house that YOU want to do and enjoy breaking the rules. There ARE some rules that you're supposed break! (Rules that never should have existed in the first place!)

AND HAVE A BLAST DOING IT!

Some Goofy Memories to Share for My Wednesday's Walk

I hope you'll join me and my chums for Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane. This is a wonderful way to document memories...those made long ago and those made today. Whether short or long... sentimental or funny... memories are worth documenting! To learn how to participate, click on the button at the top of this post.

Welcome to Wednesday's (Weird) Walk Down Memory Lane. Truth is, I am so tired tonight that I can't think of anything to write regarding a memory! But I'm here for ya! So, I'll just do a funky little strange memory!

I'm painting - again! I've been in the mood to paint - which is a very RARE mood, so I'm taking advantage of the mood and I've become a mad painter woman!

As I was painting today, I was reminded that I never told you something from my last painting job - and you KNOW that I tell you everything right? :) Blogging chums are privileged individuals. Well, when Abigail and I were painting the walls in her room, I had my white paint in a disposable coffee cup doing trim. I was also drinking a cup of General Foods International Coffee (Belgain Hazelnut) in a mug - between strokes. Perhaps not the best combination of things to be doing.

Well, by now you probably guessed what I did. I took the disposable coffee cup full of paint and took a drink - a BIG drink! I didn't swallow. Believe me, when it first went in, I KNEW that wasn't my coffee!! I don't drink my coffee quite that thick. I just started laughing and saying "Oh my goodness!" and then I ran to the bathroom to get it out of my mouth.

When Abigail asked me what it tasted like, I said, "Not great, but not too bad." I rather liked my teeth that white too, but don't think I'll paint my teeth.

So, how's that for a weird memory lane post?

Oh, I have another little funny memory from today! My room was so dusty before I painted that I used a broom to sweep the ceiling and walls. As the dust entered my nose, I started to have an allergy attack, so I stuck an allergy filter in my nostrils. It's not the most beautiful thing and usually I only allow family members to see me in it (it works great by the way), but somebody came to the door and I forgot to take the nose filters out. I looked at the lady (who I didn't know) and she just looked at me strange. I said, "Oops, let me just take these allergy filters out. Okay there." TACKY! But OH WELL!

So, there you have it!

Oh, one more thing. I'm letting my free spirit fly and painting a wardrobe in our bedroom the COOLEST, color. I've always wanted a big funky piece of furniture and now I'm going to have one. I want you to guess what color I'm painting it. It's one of the colors on this globe (which is also going in my bedroom with the painted wardrobe).

So, look at all the colors on this globe and tell me what color you think I would paint my wardbrobe.
Yes, that IS paint on my head.

My bedroom is an ocean theme and I'm painting my dresser white, my end table a cool faded green, and my walls a very washed out bluish green. There's my hint (not a great one huh?)

I can't wait to get it done and SHOW YOU!!!

It's primered up and we're ready to ROLL!

Boy is this going to look different tomorrow!!!

I'm in PLAY Mode - Giveaways Galore!

Thank you for all of your One Year Blog Anniversary (Blogiversary) greetings! Your comments truly blessed my heart and made me extra glad that I'm here - in the land of Oz, Oh, I mean Blogz (yes, being from Kansas made me do that).

Ready for some FUN?

I'm going to be doing a monthly giveaway for those of you participating in Getting to know YOU. (This is for those of you who have signed up for the event-whether you've been featured yet or not). I've had internet businesses and bloggers offer to let me give their products away... I also have some things I personally want to give away. What am I giving away? Well, you'll just have to wait and see! It will change from month to month... Regardless, it will be FUN! Giveaways are always fun!

This monthly giveaway will work like this. All you have to do is COMMENT on the featured bloggers blogs and you'll be entered in the drawing. If you comment on all 8 blogs (in a month's time), you'll be entered 8 times! If you comment on 2, you'll be entered 2 times. I may increase the frequency of the giveaways depending on what I have to giveaway. I think Getting to know YOU is much more fun for the featured blogger when they get a ton of comments - so this is just something to stimulate comment activity.

I'm going to send you back to Confessions of an Over-Caffeinated Housewife. Because of the holiday, our over caffeinated friend didn't get a lot of visitors on Friday. So, head over there for a visit and tell our Friday's Featured blogger hello (and be entered in this months giveaway).

I'm celebrating the One Year Anniversary of my blog with a GIVEAWAY!

The Grand Prize: Deluxe Blog Makeover - Donated by 32nd Street Blog Boutique! (My daughter Abigail's brand new design blog *that she's still working on) Abigail is the one that designed my blog. Value: $65 (If you win and you don't want or need a blog makeover, you can give it away to somebody you know would like one). (Must be a blogspot blog)

The Almost as Grand Prize: $25 Barnes and Noble Gift Certificate (If you live outside of the US, I'll email you the gift certificate number and code so you can use it online)

The Baby Grand Prize: A One Year Subscription to Victoria Magazine (if you already have one, let me know and I'll substitute this with a dish from my personal collection of old dishes). $18 Value (For US residents only - sorry)

The After Thought Grand Prize: A $10 Starbucks Gift Certificate! (US residents)

To be entered just leave a comment on this blog post and you'll be entered! THAT'S IT! Now wasn't that easy? If you put my new Dancing Barefoot blog button on your blog (or have it on your blog already), let me know in a separate comment and you'll get an extra entry.

You can comment until midnight (central time) July 9th. I'll announce the winner on Friday, July 10th. Thanks for joining in the fun!

I've been blogging ONE YEAR TODAY! YEAH!

Little did I know after beginning my blog one year ago, I'd have 300 followers and 550 subscribers. I know that's nothing compared to the "famous bloggers", but I'm THRILLED to have that many people willing to put up with me! I mean really... Just re-read some of my post titles:
  • Harry Performs! My Crooked Face, and Myra's Mixing Bowls
  • Abigail Got a Hold of the Flat Iron
  • Frantic, Crazy, Tired...Excited!
  • I'm Back...I think...Am I? Let me know
  • Weird Breakfast, Cute Babies and Thrifting!
Yes, you put up with me, but you love me don't you? Yes! Admit it - YOU DO! How can you resist me? Right?

Or maybe it's my very sane family that keeps you coming back for more. Is that it?

Or perhaps my very happy children?

And you want your children to be as diligent as mine too, don't you?

And you feel sorry for my children because they are so timid and shy...

Oh wait! It just came to me - It's because I'm such a tender, loving mother who never (lovingly) donks my children on the head! Yes, that's IT!

Well, WHATEVER it is, I'm glad you keep coming back for more! I'm so happy that you've become my chums and I adore you all!

In honor of my one year anniversary, I have a fun giveaway planned that I'll tell you about on Monday. Abigail and I have something up our sleeve(s). Can you tell?

Oh, and I also have a monthly giveaway planned for Getting to know YOU starting this month! Read about it on Monday too!

Happy Sunday to you my Chums! Hope you didn't blow up with the fireworks because I would miss you.

Look at my little treasures! Oh, and somebody is Over-Caffeinated!! :)

My blogging chum Lisa sent me a big box of goodies this week - just because she loves me. Isn't that SWEEEET! It was a surprise too. So much fun! Some of the things got broken :( but there were some really fun treasures that I'm so excited to have. Here are a few of them...

I'm getting ready to re-do my bedroom in a rustic ocean theme and have been buying little things at sales for it. Look at this little light Lisa sent - a Captain's wheel even! I'm going to paint it light green. I'll show you when it's done.

This is the booth at the antique mall that inspired the rustic ocean theme idea.

Remember Lisa's friend - Charla Steele that does the beautiful collage art? This is one of hers. This one reminds me of Cecily and Anna. Don't you love it? I'm going to put it in Cecily's room. We're doing her room in "Shabby Chic" decor - faded flowers, pastels, whites, creams, etc.

This was Lisa's grandmother's jewelry box. So cool! Look, it's smiling at you!

This is the inside of the jewelry box.

A lovely and delicate lady that fits very nicely in my dining room.

Thank you SO MUCH LISA!
(If you haven't visited Lisa, you should - you will just love her!)

Cecily and Harrison and I went thrifting today and boy did we find some treasures! I haven't had that good of a thrifting trip in quite a while. When we came home and put all of the stuff on the table, Jared said, "That stuff definitely has "Mom" written all over it.". (and Cecily likes a lot of what I like too)

And it only took us about 2 1/2 hours! Are we good or what!?

I'll bet you think this is ugly don't you? Just wait until I'm done with it!

I'll update you with all my decorating projects. I have to pace myself. :) We're just getting Abigail's room finished up this weekend.

Today I'm sending you over to visit another spaz - well, I'm assuming she is since her blog is called....

I'll let you decide whether you think she's a spaz or not. She actually seems rather calm to me... and rather cute too. (I'll admit though that her picture in her header might be a dead give away on the spaz thing. hee hee! Mrs. "Over-Caffeinated" does have a serious side too though - she has a heavy burden for orphans and is letting God use her to minister to their needs. I think that's beautiful.

Take a few minutes to visit her cute blog and if you have time, click over to some of her favorite blogs:

I'm hosting a giveaway in the next few days because it's my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of blogging on Sunday! YEAH!!! What a fun year of blogging it's been too! Stay tuned!

Oh boy, I think I have LAZY Summer Days Syndrome

There really is such a thing you know...I just invented it!

What is Lazy Summer Days Syndrome?

Symptoms:

1. You wake up and enjoy the sunshine through the window, grab your cup of coffee and plop down to read your bible, check your email, etc. and forget you have to pay attention to anything or anyone else. Two hours later you find yourself STILL in your jammies and bare feet walking back to the coffee pot for your third cup of java!

2. You don't have a single plan for the day - whatever happens happens.

3. You have three days worth of swimming attire hanging over the bathtub. Or maybe it's fallen IN the bathtub.

4. Your yard is decorated with stray basketballs, bicycles, mason jars with bugs, buckets with frogs, hoses, dirty pools, and broken 'stuff' from running over it with the mower (oh, maybe that's just because I'm a lunatic mower woman!)

5. You can't think of a thing to cook for dinner. You'd rather just grab an apple, some cucumbers, maybe some lunch meat...oh, and maybe an iced coffee from Starbucks.

6. Your kids get their baths in the sprinkler or pool.

7. You have flips flops flipped all over the house.

8. Your husband pulls up and you make yourself stand up real fast because you want him to think you were being productive. (Oops, the way the house looks gives it away.)

9. You go to garage sales to feel like you're doing something.

10. You go to the zoo to say you did something educational (our trip to the zoo on Tuesday was extremely educational - just look at our pictures).

I said we were going to continue to 'school' through the summer but I'm really struggling here. I'm not being exactly lazy lazy. Just not doing anything very routine or productive. I am a free spirit and lately you can REALLY tell!

Should I just give into it and be lazy? Is that allowed? Does anybody else have this problem in the summer? The older I get the more I want summer's off! Oh wait, am I resorting back to childhood - yes, I think I am!

I've been preparing (in my head) a blog post that I think you'll all be able to relate too. I was visiting with a friend the other day and we had this great discussion about the stresses of modern day motherhood. I think we need summer's off. Yes, summer can be a time of rejuvenation for us stressed out moms.

So what do you think? Should I let me and my kids play this summer or should I get out my iron whip and get back to work? What are you doing?
