While my husband and I were talking to them I told them that the prognosis of a heart patient is extremely varied. Sometimes a patient with a simple hole in their heart can die during surgery yet a patient with a very severe defect (I hate that word) can live many years. There really are no absolutes when it comes to heart defects (Ugh, I truly hate that word)...
Kathyrn's baby lived less than a year... Anna (my daughter) lived 6 years, and Paul Cardall has lived over 35 years! Knowing it would give them hope, I told this couple about Paul and even though Paul hasn't signed up for Getting to know YOU - I want to tell all of you about Paul too. He has no idea I'm doing this - in fact, I don't think Paul Cardall knows I exist - but I feel a strong prompting to share his blog with you today. So, let me break my rules for one day and introduce you to somebody who is not on my "list" - sometimes you just have to veer off the path and go where you feel God is sending you - maybe God wants me to do this for one of you.
I have no idea how I found Paul's blog, but I found it about six months ago. When I read about the details of Paul's diagnosis I noticed that some of his heart issues were similar to Anna's (including single ventricle). I became a little emotional because it was a reminder that Anna might have lived longer - even though her diagnosis was very severe. I know, technically, it would have been impossible for her to live longer, because God planned to take her exactly when he did - when she was 6 years old, but sometimes you just feel things anyway, ya know?
As I read Paul's story I was just amazed by his joyful spirit and his positive outlook. I felt very drawn to his family and found myself wishing I would have known him when Anna was alive. I think his life would have been a tremendous encouragement to us - especially to Anna.
As I read more about him, I discovered his wife's name is Lynnette - spelled exactly the same (and trust me, that's unusual - most Lynnette's spell their name with one "n"). Just a fun little detail that drew me to them more.
Well, Paul recently received a new heart and I've been following his journey. I'm so glad he's doing well. In addition to all of this - as if it isn't enough - Paul is an award winning pianist. Amongst many others, he did the album that was the companion to the the book: The Christmas Box.
Want to be touched deeply - just go and visit Paul's blog and then click around to his other sites and listen to his music and an interview or two. It will be a good use of your time, I promise.

What a beautiful compassionate heart you have Lynnette!
Thank you for introducing us to so many precious souls! I adore your tender spirit and ways that you share it here!
Lots of love,
Jill
Lynnette, I've heard of Paul but not spent much (any?) time on his blog. Honestly, I think initially, it was just too hard.. I'm doing better lately though so I will check it out.
I'm glad you were able to steer Ben & Cindy that way. When we found out about Seth's HLHS, I remember that I just REFUSED to read stories that didn't have happy endings.. I couldn't go there in my head.. I've met MANY more CHD moms since Seth went to Heaven.
Thanks for sharing my "place" again too! I WILL be praying for Ben & Cindy and baby Natalie... (Do they have a blog? Will you keep us updated?)
What a great family to get to know. You have a beautiful spirit and your compassion for people is amazing!
Happy Monday!
Paul truly is a gifted individual. I have been following him for a while now and I am amazed at how he allows God to use him. Thanks for sharing :)
I can't wait to check it out!
Awesome, can't wait to check his blog out! I will be praying for baby Natalie!
Lynnette,
Just wanted to share with you that our Son #5 was healed in my womb from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He went from practically no left side of his heart to having a normal heart within the last 2 months of my pregnancy--when there was virtually no hope for growth in his left side that late in the pregnancy. We moved from Missouri to Ann Arbor, MI for the last month so that we could do the 3 stage surgery with Dr. Bove. God was so good and we were a witness of His amazing healing power in that hospital!! Drs. and nurses would point at us and smile and tell everyone that our little guy wasn't going to need surgery. Such an amazing miracle to us.
Just wanted to share! :-)
Kris
I'm so glad you shared Paul's blog. I just got done perusing it, and although I can't personally relate to his health issues, I was very encouraged by his words. Thanks, Lynnette!

Lynette, I was pleasantly surprised when I logged onto your blog today and learned that your featured blogger was Paul Cardall. You see I am from Utah and know well of his family and his celebrity status in Utah, as well as his story. Who would have thought, you would even know about him or his story. God sure does work in mysterious ways sometimes. Thanks so much for featuring him today.
dear Lynette,
I visited Ben & Cindy last night, Cindy was excited showing me your book she is reading (almost finished), and told me about your story. I thank God for sending you into their lives. We have been praying for them. "in his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps." (Prov.16:9)
Thank God for you and your beautiful family's testimonies for the Lord.
love in Christ,
